Fillers are gel-like substances that are injected into the skin to fill up deep lines and creases. With better fillers and better techniques, they are increasingly used to volumize and augment certain parts of the face, such as the cheeks, nose and chin. They can even help to rejuvenate and lift the skin.
The most common and popular fillers are Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers such as Restylane® and Juvederm®. The latest formulations contain the local anaesthetic Lidocaine, making the injection an almost painless process.
Lines and folds
Lines and folds appear on the face as a result of aging. They form because of volume loss or sagging of tissues. Fillers, sometimes combined with Botox, can effectively soften these lines and folds.
Augmentation
The volumizing effects of fillers allow them to be used to augment certain facial features, such as the lips, nose and chin. Volume loss as a result of aging in some areas such as the cheeks can also be effectively reversed.
Facelift
When injected in a certain manner, in strategic areas, fillers can be used to give sagging skin a lifted look.
Skin rejuvenation
Aging and sun-exposure results in thinning of the skin. Elasticity of the skin is also lost. Fillers help to plump up and hydrate the skin, making them look rejuvenated.
