Lip Reduction

Prominent Lips

Full lips may be a desired feature, but excessively thick and prominent lips may be unaesthetic and can become a source of ridicule. Lips that droop and turn outwards can also lead to a lack of confidence and cause anxiety. The goal of lip reduction surgery is to achieve a harmonious relationship between the upper and lower lips that is in balance with the entire face.

Surgery

Lip reduction surgery is usually performed under local anaesthesia. The surgery takes about 1 hour and takes about 1 to 2 weeks to heal. During the procedure, a strip of skin is removed from the lip. The dimensions of this strip will depend on the existing and the desired lip sizes, and is planned and marked out carefully by the surgeon prior to the procedure.

Recovery

Other than lip swelling especially during the first 3 days, recovery is generally unremarkable. During these 3 days, cold pack is applied to the lip to help to minimize swelling. Painkillers and antibiotics will be prescribed. Chewing should be avoided for 1 week. Gentle toothbrushing is allowed after the 3 day.
